My Running Journey

My journey in running began in 2019 – I’d dabbled before then, running a 10k at university, and a marathon for charity (off minimal training) – when I arrived home after some extended travel in Nepal and India. I was looking for something to ground me, to distract me from the uncertainty of my photography career. Being a lover of simplicity, motion and the outdoors, running very naturally became the tool I used to manage my mental and physical health.

Fast forward a few years and many miles, I now run most days and have become an advocate for longevity and sustainability in the sport. I train (and race!) on the roads, but my true love is a morning on the trails around Sheffield and the Peak District. Fortunately, I’ve been lucky enough to take running trips to both the Alps and the Pyrenees in recent years, and have plans for many future trail running trips abroad, where I can mix my passions of running, adventure + photography. You can read about those trips in my journal here.

Through a consistent and sustainable approach to training, I have developed the speed and strength for both a quick 5k and big mountain days with heaps of vert.

For those interested, my PBs currently stand at:

5k - 15:46.

10k - 33:11.

HM - 1:14:55.

Despite these (relatively) quick times, performance is far from my sole priority. I race infrequently and rather, place an emphasis on longevity and a focus on finding balance, where running fits comfortably into my active lifestyle.

Over the coming months, my plan is to extend my knowledge and understanding to others. Through online coaching, I hope to bring my passion for running to others. If this is something that interests you, please add your name and email below.

I’ll send out an update when the time comes.

Thanks!

Ryan
